TikTok unveils new guided meditation feature to promote mental well-being

In its latest stride toward fostering digital wellness, TikTok today announced the launch of an innovative in-app guided meditation feature aimed at promoting better sleep and emotional health among its diverse user base. This launch coincides with the introduction of a $2.3 million global Mental Health Education Fund, reinforcing TikTok’s commitment to creating a safer, more supportive online environment.

Enhancing well-being through technology

As part of its existing Sleep Hours feature, the new meditation experience is designed to encourage users to wind down at night with calming, guided exercises.

Research shows that mindful meditation can improve sleep quality in people of all ages, so TikTok introduced Meditation in Sleep Hours to all users, regardless of their age. For users under 18, the feature is switched on by default. After 10 p.m., teens’ “For You” feed is temporarily replaced with a guided meditation prompt. A second, harder-to-dismiss screen appears if they continue browsing, helping reinforce healthy screen time habits. In a recent internal test, TikTok found that 98% of teens chose to keep the meditation feature on.

Adult users can manually enable Sleep Hours from their Screen Time settings. In today’s fast-paced world, taking time to unwind is more important than ever. Experts recommend at least 10 minutes of daily meditation to reduce stress and improve focus. Studies from JAMA Internal Medicine and Harvard Health show that 10–15 minutes of meditation before bed can enhance sleep quality, ease anxiety, and support emotional balance.

A $2.3 million investment in mental health education
To further support mental wellness globally, TikTok has pledged $2.3 million in advertising credits to 31 mental health organizations across 22 countries. This initiative, part of the 2025 Mental Health Education Fund, empowers partners to develop engaging, trustworthy content while extending their reach through TikTok-led training and support.

In South Asia, where mental health discourse has historically been limited, this initiative marks a transformative step. “Once considered taboo in countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Nepal, mental health is now being openly discussed,” said Asma Anjum, Trust & Safety Regional Lead for South Asia at TikTok. “We’re seeing a positive cultural shift, and we’re proud to contribute through in-app tools and public awareness campaigns that support this progress.”

A broader commitment to community wellness

The meditation feature and the mental health education fund reinforce TikTok’s broader commitment to digital wellness and social impact. Alongside, TikTok is adding educational feeds, safety tools, and parental controls to promote healthy digital habits and well-being, especially for young users. Whether it be through #GivingSzn charity drives, STEM feed learning moments, or responding to AMBER alerts to help recover missing children.

By combining technology, community engagement, and nonprofit collaboration, TikTok is reaffirming its commitment to becoming a platform that not only entertains but also empowers and uplifts communities through meaningful change.
