UIU Pharmacy Department Head Received OWSD Fellowship

Dr. Tahmina Faiz, Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of Pharmacy, United International University (UIU) was awarded the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Fellowship for her outstanding achievements in international research.

The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) awards Early Career Fellowships annually to support emerging women researchers from developing countries to enhance their research skills, connect with international networks, and develop scientific leadership. The OWSD Fellowship program aims to strengthen research capacity in the Global South and to strengthen international research collaboration and knowledge exchange, and is sponsored by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC).

She is one of 15 scientists from Bangladesh selected worldwide for the 2024 Early Career Fellowship. She earned her PhD from the renowned Nagoya University in Japan. She is working on innovative hydrogel technology for wound healing.

Dr. Tahmina Faiz participated in the four-day “OWSD Early Career Fellowship” orientation workshop recently held in Trieste, Italy. In this workshop, selected women scientists from different countries of the world came together to exchange views on research planning, leadership, international collaboration and strategies for bringing about social change through science. As part of the training program, participants participated in various effective sessions and networking events on research management, funding collection strategies, increasing public engagement as scientists and scientific contributions at the policy-making level. On the last day of the training workshop, Dr. Tahmina Faiz was formally awarded the UNESCO-OWSD Early Career Fellowship Award Certificate for 2024 through a closing ceremony. This moment was a proud and memorable chapter in her professional life, which will further inspire her in future research work and strengthen the representation of Bangladeshi women in the international arena.
