Seminar on 'Developing Research Skills and the Role of Primary Health Care in Global Health' Held at AIUB

The Department of Public Health at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) successfully organized an insightful seminar titled “Developing Research Skills and the Role of Primary Health Care in Global Health”, held at the campus on August 1, 2025. The event focused on the importance of public health research and the global impact of Primary Health Care (PHC).

Internationally reputed honorable speaker, Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, PhD currently working as Senior Manager at the prestigious National Health Service (NHS), UK, emphasized the crucial role of Primary Health Care (PHC) as the backbone of global health systems. He highlighted how robust primary care helps reduce health disparities and improve access to cost-effective and equitable health services worldwide. He emphasized the critical need of strengthening PHC system in Bangladesh whereby all the basic human health needs are available under one roof giving services not only by doctors and nurses but also having laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, dental, nutrition, vaccination, mental health, counseling and health promotion services. Dr. Rakia Ishra, Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health at AIUB, served as the first speaker. The seminar was organized under the guidance and leadership of Dr. Muhammad Wasiful Alam, Head of the Department of Public Health along with the collaborative efforts of the departmental team in making the event a success.

Distinguished attendees included AIUB Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, and other faculty members. The seminar ended with thank you note from Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Saiful Islam and Pro. VC Prof. Dr Abdur Rahman, which was followed by a tour of the University campus.
