The 2nd International Conference on Fiber and Polymer Materials (ICFP 2025) began in Dhaka on Tuesday. Organized by the Society of Fiber Science, Bangladesh (SFSB), in collaboration with International Standard University (ISU) and the Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX), it is being held at the BUTEX campus in Tejgaon. The two-day event runs from August 26–27, 2025, with sessions from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The conference is presided over by Professor Dr. M.A. Barique, President of the Society of Fiber Science, Bangladesh, and faculty member at Shizuoka University, Japan. Distinguished international guests include Professor Takeshi Kikutani (Former President, The Fiber Society of Japan & Institute of Science Tokyo), Professor Caroline L. Schauer (President, Fiber Society USA), Dr. Rudolf Hufenus (EMPA, Switzerland), Professor Suwabun Chirachanchai (Thailand), Professor Seeram Ramakrishna (Singapore), Professor Han Yong (Korea), Professor Shuichi Tanoue (President, Japan Society of Textile Machinery), and Professor Koji Nakane (Japan).
Renowned Bangladeshi academics and professionals—including Professor Dr. Md. Zulhash Uddin, Vice-Chancellor of BUTEX; Professor Mohammad Abul Kashem, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, ISU; Professor HTM Quader Newaz, Treasurer, ISU; and Professor Dr. Mohammad Masudur Rahman (EUB)—along with other famous academicians, researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, and students from leading institutions across the country, take part in the event.
In his remarks, Professor Dr. M.A. Barique stated that the conference would play a crucial role in connecting Bangladesh’s textile and polymer sectors with world-class research and technology. He emphasized that the event will open new horizons of research in the country’s textile and polymer industries and further strengthen their global presence. In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, he noted that fiber and polymer science is no longer confined to textiles alone but also plays a significant role in healthcare, environmental protection, space research, and renewable energy technologies. Through this conference, local researchers and students will have the opportunity to exchange knowledge with international experts, thereby enhancing Bangladesh’s position in the global textile and polymer arena.
Speakers highlighted that Bangladesh’s textile industry remains the backbone of the national economy. They expressed optimism that the conference would not only promote new research but also contribute to policy recommendations, international collaboration, and innovative product development, ensuring long-term positive impacts for the industry.
Key areas of discussion include sustainable textiles, eco-friendly fibers, electronic and medical textiles, Nano-fibers, recycled fibers, muslin, geotextiles, carbon fibers, glass fibers, spinning, weaving, wet processing, polymer development for fiber production, fiber structure and properties, composites, fiber-based materials, and the ready-made garment (RMG) sector. The organizers expressed hope that the conference will open a new horizon of innovation, research, and collaboration in Bangladesh’s textile and polymer industries.
